European Educational Projects onboard the ISS, using ICE Cubes Facilities.

On February 15 SCM hosted a webinar focused on European universities, academic centers, and educational entities interested in learning about the current projects available onboard the ISS using ICE Cubes facilities and European and local funding opportunities. Developed by Space Applications Services, the ICE Cubes Service is a simple and cost-effective way for your experiment or technology to fly onboard the International Space Station.

The ICE Cubes Facility is a capable experiment platform that offers flexibility to host many different research, technological, or educational projects in space. During the flight, users can have near real-time telemetry and telecommanding capabilities with the Experiment Cube from any location with an internet connection.

Key Takeaways from the Webinar:

  • Innovative Access to Space: We delved into how ICE Cubes is revolutionizing access to space for research, technology, and educational projects, offering fast, regular access to the International Space Station (ISS).
  • Diverse Educational Opportunities: From educational competitions like ESA’s Orbit Your Thesis to AI in Space challenges through focusing on your own science, engineering or technology through MediaSet interactive crew events and courses or the Space Innovation Labs global network, we highlighted a variety of programs designed to inspire and educate students across all levels.
  • Cutting-edge Research and Development: Our discussion covered the unique real-time interaction capabilities of ICE Cubes, allowing for instant command and data retrieval from space and real-time interactive events with the crew, and opening new avenues and unique assets for scientific inquiry and innovation in space.
